Hay there! What can you do with a bale of hay?
We are throwing down the gauntlet and setting all you Creatives a very exciting challenge. Using no more than one Australian standard small hay bale, we challenge you to create something extraordinary for the 2017 Hay Bale Challenge Sculpture Competition.
There are no restrictions on what the artwork is, provided you use a maximum of one standard small bale (900mm x 375mm x 450mm and 27kgs) or smaller. Other materials can be used provided that the artwork, in the opinion of the judges, is inherently a work from only one bale of hay (or straw).
Artworks must be transportable and available to be displayed outside in York during the festival. All artworks submitted for the Hay Bale Challenge can be made available for sale. A commission is applicable to all artworks sold.
A jury will assess entries for the Judge’s prize of $1,000 and there is a People’s Choice award of $200. Entry fee $25.
Deadline for entry: COB 31st August 2017.
To enter, complete the Entry Form and pay the $25 entry fee. Deadline for entries is COB 31st August 2017. An image of the entry must be included (preferably completed but of Works in Progress may be accepted). All entrants will receive a Notification of Participation within 7 days of receiving the entry form. Contact the organisers to make alternative arrangements if delivery to York is an obstacle.
Then just head down to your nearest pet supply shop, find yourself one bale of hay or straw and fashion all or some of it into an artwork that can be displayed at The York Festival from 16th September 2017. Completed artwork must be delivered by TBC September 2017.
