What is Americana?  Sometimes called alt country music, Americana music in Australia builds on the Americana styles and melds them with aspects of uniquely Australian sounds, stories and lyrical content, often influenced by our history, people and place in the world.

Americana – aka Alt Country, is attracting a significant following with the likes of Taasha Coats (ex the Audreys), Ruby Boots and Henry Waggons aligning themselves with the genre.  The Americana Music Association of Australia which is modelled on the US based Americana Music Association, launched in late 2016 and their intro into Western Australia is happening during The York Festival.

Wayward Johnson, Helen Shanahan, the Jaycos, the Justin Walshe Folk Machine and Tom Fisher & the Layabouts will be showcasing some of WA’s best Americana/Alt Country talent at the Castle Hotel in York to celebrating the AMAA’s WA launch party on Saturday 16th September.

16th September, doors open from 4pm
Tix online $29 (+ B/F).  At door $35.
