Join Ballardong Elder Marion Kickett, John Crook from the York River Conservation Society, and poet Nandi Chinna, on a cultural, scientific and imaginative encounter with Gogulgar Bilya – the Avon River.
In this workshop we will learn of the importance of the Gogulgar Bilya to the Ballardong people, and the efforts made by the York River Conservation Society to protect and rehabilitate this river for future generations. Guided by poet Nandi Chinna we will engage in deep listening, slow-walking, and connecting with our senses to the river environment. Participants will then work with Nandi to create a piece of imaginative writing from this intimate encounter with Gogulgar – the Avon River.
Nandi works as a research consultant, creativity facilitator, and poet based on Bunuba lands in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Nandi received the 2021 Western Australian Premier’s Writing Fellowship for her project Two Rivers: First Nations Voices on Rivers and Wetlands.
Tickets: $15 plus booking fee. U18 free.
