Here’s the important small print:
1. Entry fee $10.00. No limit on number of entries but entry fee is payable for each submission. Entries accepted from anyone resident in WA.
2. Stories must be between 1200 and 1500 words and be presented using double spacing. All work must be in English.
3. The author’s name must not appear on work but should be entered separately together with the age category that the entry is for.
4. By submitting an entry, the author confirms that the work is their own, original and unpublished. Copyright remains with the author but submitting an entry automatically gives WAEi / The York Festival / Writing WA permission to have the work published on The York Festival’s and Writing WA’s websites for twelve months from publication date.
5. Entries that do not comply with the rules will not be accepted and all fees will be forfeited. Entries from anyone connected with WAEi, The York Festival or sponsors of the Short Story Competition are not eligible.
6. Winners advised Friday 16 May 2025. Prize giving at the York Regional Writers Weekend on Saturday 24 May 2025.
