Join Noongar poet Megan Ugle and award-winning poet and educator Natalie Damjanovich-Napoleon for an immersive poetry writing workshop that invites you to connect deeply with Bibool Boodja (Paperbark Country) through Noongar ways of knowing and an eco-poetic approach. Presented as part of the York Regional Writers Weekend, this workshop explores how we can engage our senses, body, and spirit to form a more profound relationship with Country.
Guided by Noongar knowledge and eco-poetics, we will explore the significance of trees, particularly the paperbark, as a bridge between the past and present, ancestors and self. Through a series of reflective exercises, we will write to our bodies and to Country, drawing inspiration from the land’s healing presence. We will speak to Country and listen to its reply, tune in to the whispers of trees, feel the textures of bark and earth, and allow the wind to carry stories into our words.
Participants will be encouraged to explore their personal and ancestral connections to trees, engaging the senses to craft poetry that resonates with the rhythms and spirit of the land. Whether you are new to poetry or an experienced writer, this workshop will offer a space to slow down, listen, and write from a place of deep presence.
Come and experience the wisdom of Kaartdijin Bibool Boodja, where the land speaks, and we learn to respond with poetry.
